Overview
Girls With Guts supports and empowers women with IBD (Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis) via a national network that encourages connection and self-esteem. The organization tries to bring patients together with doctors and thought leaders to spread awareness for IBD issues and gain strength by sharing stories and common experiences.
Description
The Girls With Guts website has various sections that users can find more information about the organization and upcoming events. There are tabs for Programs and Retreats that show details about the events that the members participate in as well as resources including blogs, forums, apps, and more.
Retreats
Girls With Guts hosts two retreats every year – the standard Annual Retreat and the New Attendee Retreat. They are an opportunity for women with IBD or ostomities to create friendships, learn about ways to manage the conditions, and improve their lives.
Connection
The Girls With Guts website has various resources and opportunities for women to connect with other women who have IBD or ostomies. There is the blog where users can share and read stories of encouragement, empowerment, and daily lives. There is also a Pen Pal program where users can sign up to get a pen pal to send letters and share stories.
I Gotta Go Card
Another resource that Girls With Guts provides is an “I Gotta Go Card”. Users can apply for the card that make it easier for women to discreetly ask for restroom access in private businesses. Because of the Restroom Access Act (also known as “Ally’s Law”), people with IBD in 14 states have the legal right to use a private restroom in a business and this card helps speed the process along, which can be a big deal for people with IBD.
